There are names we are all familar with like Sopwith Mannock etc yet we dont  come across them in the everyday world.   Last week l passed through the border town of Selkirk  and in the main street l saw a newsagents with a big sign above the shop front comprised of one word.....McCUDDEN

although Selkirk is a long way from Rochester!

Heading in the other direction l was in Eastleigh near Southampton not so long ago, a location well off for its aviation connections.l spotted a SOPWITH ROAD which must be a reference to Tommy Sopwith. The tribute to this pioneer was somewhat undermined for me when l saw that Sopwith Road led into BENNY HILL CLOSE.
