In the 16th Wing "War Diary" for Salonika I came across reference to the above named officer flying to the nearest RFC squadron to present himself for service with the RFC.  His request was duly accepted and he became "attached" to the RFC.

The date was not noted by me but was probably 1916 or 1917 as Smolianinov's motive was his concern that Russia would soon be out of the war.

His flight was made in a captured German aircraft but due to the Allied identification markings that the aircraft carried he was escorted in to an aerodrome rather than being engaged in combat.

Does anyone know anything further of his career with the RFC and post-war?

Thanks and regards,

Jonathan S
