G D Smith was a pilot serving with the Egypt and East Indies Seaplane Squadron 1916-1917.

He may have written a book of his experiences "The Aerial Crusader".  One of his adventures was used by Rudyard Kipling as a basis of a short story "A Flight of Fact."

Does anyone have a copy of the book?

Ian
Is this Duncan Smith the father of the author of "Spitfire Leader", and thus the grandfather of Ian Duncan Smith (the quiet man turning up the volume) ?

Hi Nick,

No idea.

'My' Guy Duncan Smith joined the RNAS from California by way of Canada - though he was British.
I believe he returned there after the war, married and had at least one son Guy Jr.
