BRIEF GLORYBRIEF GLORY: The life of Arthur Rhys Davids

Alex Revell

Pen & Sword Books Ltd, as above

224pp, 160×240mm, hardback.

ISBN 978-1-84884-1620-8, £19.99.

First published in 1984, this reissue is also to be welcomed. Rhys Davids only lived for twenty years, but in this short time made a name for himself not only as an outstanding fighter pilot, but also as a popular colleague of the likes of McCudden. All the family papers were put at the disposal of the author, including a letter written the day before Rhys Davids’ death. Once again not to be missed as a fascinating account of life and death in World War I. As an aside, I wonder what post war England would have been like if it had been led by the outstanding young men who lost their lives during the conflict.
