I am looking at the life of Manchester bicycle maker Fred Pemberton. According to his son, :
"As to Fred Pemberton in the wars, he joined the RFC in 1917 and at the end of the war he signed up as a reservist. This meant that he was called up into the RAF at the beginning of WW2. His RFC number was 58859, which of course was carried forward into the RAF. In the RFC he was a Flight Observer and in WW2 his rank was Flight Sergeant."
Can anyone provide any further information ?
Many thanks
Nick
