I need to check the FULL name of a Private in the Army Service Corps (before it was royalised). His number is R/387893 with the surname Green.  His christian name is Walter, but did he have other initials?

Can this be done without visiting the NA at Kew?  Is there an RASC museum somewhere?  Probably something on-line available?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Peter,
I would expect the medal index card (NA on line) to give initials, if not full name.

ASC is now part of the Royal Logistics Corps :

Address:
Royal Logistic Corps Museum
Princess Royal Barracks,
Deepcut,
Camberley,
GU16 6RW

Tel: 01252 833371

Fax: 01252 833484

Email:

Web:

Curator:
Mr Andrew Robertshaw

I do have a list (somewhere) of what the service number prefixes, like 'R', mean; but I guess that the RLC museum should be able to give you that info staright away, if you need it ?

Hi Peter,

Is Walter Green the older brother of James Hubert Ronald Green R.F.C.?
If so his full name is WALTER REGINALD GREEN and I have a copy of his army service record.
I can send you a copy by email if this is your man.

Peter,

I have done a search of the medal cards via Ancestry and he does not come up, which may mean he did not serve overseas?

Rob, Ref Walter Reginald Green, a copy of his Army Service Record as you mention, will be very useful and no doubt informative.

Thanks!
