CCI hosts a number of meetings in London each year, based on HMS President, moored on the Thames Embankment. As HMS Saxifrage she was part of the Royal Navy in WW1, and is now fitted out as a conference centre and party venue.

Despite Jeff Hargrave's best efforts, attendee numbers are declining and we're forced to review whether we should carry on beyond the end of 2011. Last Friday we had just seven people attend an excellent talk on Albert Ball by Bill Fulton. As far as I'm aware we didn't clash with an England game, the weather was decent, and we're not yet into the main holiday season. London has been our flagship meeting for as long as the society has been around - so we're certainly not going to abandon it lightly. However, a lot of effort (and some cost) goes into each event, and of course we must be led by what the membership want.

Over to you! Does the membership want a regular meeting in Central London? Would changing the location, the timing or the format help? Let us know what you want!

Hi Andy, I made my first visit to a CCI London Meeting for the superb Air Accidents and Investigations talk back in May - I would have attended the Albert Ball one but i've now moved to Derby and was working that night, although hope to travel down to attend more in the future.

I think the venue is fantastic, I received a very warm welcome and everything, in my view, for a regular meeting was spot on

I think you should carry on holding the meetings.
I only manage to attend about once every decade but stiil read the program with eager anticipation.
Paul.

The London Meeting location and itinerary is here:

Much as we'd love to keep the meetings alive, with a mere seven attendees it really doesn't justify all Jeff's hard work. We need more attendees, and/or ideas on how to improve the meetings, such that people are encouraged to attend.

Come on you Southerners - what does it take to drag you into Central London on a Friday evening?

As these meetings are open to non-members, do you have any objection if I circulate details to similar military history interest sites - I am thinking primarily the Great War Forum, but why not WW2 Talk, British Medal Forum etc?

Hi Jonathon

Meetings are open to non-members. In fact most of the attendees on Friday last were WFA, not CCI! If we can get numbers back up to a decent level we may well offer CCI members a discount to encourage attendees to join the society ...

Well I have posted details on several sites.  It may help - I hope it does as it would be a shame to lose these lectures.

Quick work! I've already heard back from a mate in the US who saw your post on WWI-L Smile
Can I ask where else you've posted, so we don't get overlap??

I sent to WW1-L as you know, also The Great War Forum, WW2 Talk and British Medal Forum.

I contemplated Victorian Wars Forum but decided it was a little outside their scope.
