Hi all,

In their book ‘A Contemptible Little Flying Corps’ (The London Stamp Exchange 1991), I. McInnes and J.V. Webb compiled a roll of the first 1400 Other Ranks of the R.F.C. They were able to trace all but 8 of the men. I have been able to trace 3 of those missing men: -

182 JAMES SPENCER BLACKMAN

Born 1890 in Sunningdale, Berkshire. Enlisted 16 July 1912 directly into the RFC. Posted to Depot and Appointed 2AM. Discharged 1 August 1912, ‘Recruit within three months of enlistment considered unfit for service.’

260 ROBERT WATSON

Born 1888 in Stair, Ayrshire. Enlisted 30 July 1912 directly into the RFC. Posted to Depot and Appointed 2AM. Posted to 3 Squadron 1 October 1912. Discharged 29 October 1912 having claimed it on payment of £10 within 3 months after his attestation.

261 ARTHUR ALFRED SYKES

As 2AM, 3 Squadron was discharged 4 October 1912 having claimed it on payment of £10 within 3 months after his attestation.
