I have been asked for information about an RFC ID tag with "J.Saunders. 39758. R.F.C.  C.E.". There is an unsubstaniated story that he was a 'sailmaker' working with wing fabric (i.e. a rigger).

Can anyone add any more information ?
Thanks
Nick

RNAS or RFC Trade Classification: Coppersmiths Mate.
Remustered to Air Force Trade Classification: Coppersmiths Mate.
RNAS Rating or RFC Rank or Appointment: Air Mechanic 2.

Date of Joining: 2/6/16.
Date of last Promotion: 12/8/16.
Normal rate Air Force Pay: 1s 8d.

Hope this helps,
Rob.

Hi Rob
Many thanks for this.

The 1918 RAF Muster Roll - a 'must' for an on-line searchable database (I believe the original is in serial number order only ?).

Hi Nick,

The Muster Roll is in service number order like you say, although I have indexed the first 3488 entries and filled in most of the gaps, so I can search by surname.
Only 200,000 + entries to go........... HA HA.

Rob.
