I am sure that I have read somewhere that officers wishing to transfer to the RFC had to be under 30, unmarried, and under a certain weight.
Can anybody confirm this?
And maybe point me towards an original source.

Also I have read of Officers going overseas being issued "ARMY BOOK 153" - what is that??

Or should I just stick to the technical stuff??

I think that AB 153 is a hard cover note book, presumably for sketching and observation notes ?
There are enough examples of 'exceptions' to the under 30/ unmarried/ below a certain weight* criteria to suggest that, even if it was a regulation, it wasn't adhered to !
*e.g. Bosky Borton in 3 Squadron, weighed around 14 stone and was very unpopular as an observer due to his weight.
