The above joined the RFC in 1913 and according to A Contemptible Little Flying Corps he served in WW2 as Flt Sgt, was later commissioned and became a Wing Commander.

I have checked my 1940 AFL and he is not listed, does any one have a later edition?

Does any one know what his full name was and when and where he died.?

Huck,

From the Retired List section of the RAF Air Force List for April 1953:

45406 Brereton, W., MBE, AFC, born 27/9/96. First Comm 6/2/41. S.L. (w) 15/3/45. ret. 7/11/47.
He does not appear in the 1975 Retired List, so presumably had died in the interim.

If you use his service number to search the London Gazette online that might bring to light his first name and further details.

Huck,

I could find 2 'W. Brereton's in the medal cards:

Walter (7851, 666521, 72384) 2/AM

William (964) 2/AM

But I must conclude your man is William from the WWII entries in the London Gazette:

1 JULY, 1941         Warrant Officer William Brereton (964).

28 MARCH, 1941   Warrant Officers.  24th Feb. 1941.  (Seniority 6th Feb. 1941.)  964 William BRERETON (45406).

Here is his medal card:

Kass,

Thanks for the reply.  The medal card you have found is his army card with his 1914-15 Star, his other recorrds must still be held by the RAF.
