Hi John

I'd say it's an SE5A. As the markings are quite distinctlive, I'd imagine someone will quickly come up with a unit for you too :-)

Bomb rack mounted - which is unusual for high-flying SE pilots, so maybe March/April 1918?

Hi Andy,

Looking at the AB SE5 Book you could be right.

Cheers

Can you tell whose side the rubber neckers are on ?

I can find no reference to an SE5a combat loss on 1.3.1918, but on 3.1.1918 there is :
2Lt CD Skinner WIA, 29 Sqn - came behind Allied lines ?
2Lt RJG Stewart WIA/POW C1753 56 Sqn - behind the German lines.

The markings don't look like 56 Sqn to me...

Thanks Nick,

There is a date on the back of the card which is most likely 1/3/18 but could be 7/1/18,

having checked these date in TSTB there are no losses that I can see fit the bill?

If that's a horizontal white bar on the rear fuselage side and repeated on the fuselage underside, it would be 84 Sqn pre-22 March 1918.

Actually l now see that 56 Sqn used bombs on 31/7/17 [Maybery and Turnbull] , while 60 Sqn used them on 20/9/17.
