The day was a typical late spring Essex day. No rain - only just - bright with plenty of breeze! Unfortunately this put paid to most of the planned air display. We were supposed to see the Battle of Britain Flight, plus Tiger Moth, replica Fokker Triplane etc. A couple of aircraft braved the conditions - notably a rather colourful American tween-wars biplane trainer. Re-enactors representing the Middlesex Regiment of 1916 were present and gave a convincing display of drill - as well as skillfully answering many questions!
The Museum itself is excellent - Ivor and his crew are to be congratulated for the renovation of the building itself, which looks superb, plus the quality array of 37 Squadron related content. No doubt the content will develop over time, but the initial impresion, and quality of the items on display and the informative captioning were almost beyond reproach.
The Museum is now OPEN for visitors. Curator Ivor Dallinger asks that all planned trips are booked in advance - please don't just turn up, or you may well be disappointed! You can contact the aerodrome to book your slot using curator@stowmaries.com
To whet your appetite, here's a small selection of the photos taken on the day by CCI member Bob Jones:
