WW1 Aviation Painting of the Year 2010

The Guild of Aviation Artists exhihbition at the Mall Galleries displayed over 400 paintings and ran in late July 2010. There were pleasing groups showing several WW1 images from Colin Ashford, Barry Barnes, Alan Forbes, Alan Dillon and Ken Farmer amongst others. Several paintings were Highly Commended and may well be featured in future journals. They include : David Elwood GAvA - Baltic Back-up (Short 184 and HMS Vindictive), Roger H Middlebrook GAvA - Mesopotania 1918 (Bristol M1C Fighter) and Peter Sumpter GAvA - Back to the Parent Ship (Short 184 Seaplane and HMS Engadine).

However the Cross & Cockade International Trophy for Best WW1 Painting in Show accolade was awarded to Simon Smith GAvA - Dawn Patrol (SE5as from 56 Sqn, 1917).
