Roger Bragger's talk was this year's Leaman Lecture: "The talk is mainly about The Hejaz Expedition 1916-1917. This is the title of the book written by Captain Thomas Henderson MC for the War Office, upon his return to the UK from Egypt. There are two copies of this book, one in the IWM plus the private copy of Henderson's that I have. It is the story of the Arab Revolt of 1916 against the Ottoman Empire, when TE Lawrence was sent to the Hejaz to find a leader that the Arabs could unite under, and to work out what we could do to help them. The response was machine guns, artillery - but most of all aeroplanes; so C Flight of 14 Squadron was despatched to the Hejaz and this will be the main subject of the talk. Mention will also be made of the fact that Lawrence met up with Henderson in 1919 when they were both travelling to Egypt in the ill fated flight of Handley Page bombers, which flew from Europe in a show of force and for which Henderson got his AFC."
