This is a well written history of the names on the Cenotaph in the small Ontario town of Carleton Place. Between 1914 and 1918, out of a population of about 4000, more than 200 enlisted and 51 were killed. The author was urged on by his wife, an English teacher at the local High School, who is also responsible for the School's Remembrance Day services. She was concerned that just reading out the names and initials was inadequate. His researches led to this excellent book. There are five airmen listed, the most famous of whom is Horace Brown, brother of the much more famous Roy, who may or may not have shot Richthofen down. Each has a summary of his (or her - there is one nursing sister) life, with extracts from letters, newspaper articles and photographs. I really enjoyed this, and thought once again what a huge contribution Canada made so willingly to the Allied cause in 'The War to End all Wars'.
