Although this Squadron was only formed in March 1918, our War is well covered in this book. It was a night bombing squadron, equipped with FE2b aircraft, and there are some excellent pictures of them, and an enjoyable accompanying narrative. Disbanded in August 1919, it was re-activated in 1937, equipped with Heyfords, which do not appear to be much of an advance on the Fees! They subsequently had Wellingtons, Stirlings (in front line service for much longer than I had realised) and then Lancasters. Their losses were horrific. The Squadron was awarded one Victoria Cross (posthumously), and was disbanded again in August 1956.
This is another very detailed and well researched book from Air-Britain, and I enjoyed the narrative as well as the voluminous appendices. Like The Sopwith Pup it is available to us at a very advantageous
price, if purchased direct from Air Britain. |
