This is Aviation Elite Units 17, and is a rather different, but equally valuable, squadron history to the ones below. The only French squadron made up entirely of American volunteers (apart from the commander and executive officer), its achievements were, to be honest, modest, but it was packed with colourful characters who captured the public imagination and helped to gain American sympathy for the Allied cause. Therefore it is, understandably, more personality orientated than other histories. There are 124 illustrations, many rather badly reproduced, and 47 examples of Harry Dempsey’s artwork. Another worthy Osprey production.
