We know this place better as Sutton’s Farm. It was requisitioned in 1915 to combat Zeppelin attacks and will always be famous for being the home, amongst others, of John Slessor, William Leefe Robinson and of course Frederick Sowrey. After a brief preamble, the next 14 pages are taken up with pictures, many from the Sowrey family, and what a treat they are. Thereafter, Hornchurch (the name was changed in 1924) was in the front line again during the Battle of Britain and the rest of World War II.
This is a pictorial history, and a jolly good one, but the text is succinct and accurate. The author, a local expert, has written another piece of valuable local history.
