This is Osprey Aviation Elite Units No 16, and, like its subject matter, it is very good. There is an immense amount of detail about the various colour schemes displayed in the many excellent black and white photographs, a gripping text about a wing in which everyone who was anyone flew, first class potted biographies of the leading men, and again I marvel at how much information gets crammed into these comparatively small books. I was amused that the author says it is outside the scope of the book to discuss the way The Red Baron met his end, and then proceeds to do so, succinctly and, in my opinion, correctly. With 644 victories in 16 months, this was without doubt an ‘Elite Unit’.
