The author says that Aviation in Yorkshire goes back to a flying meeting in Doncaster in 1909. Our Managing Editor, himself living in the county, tells me that it began with the flight by Sir George Cayley's coachman near Scarborough in 1854! This book does what it's title suggests, but still has much of interest to us, as credit is given where due to the earlier days. It is good that so many airfields are being brought back into use after having been derelict for so many years. |
