This book, in German, about the city of Halberstadt, which is much more closely involved with aviation in general than I had realised. The first picture is of Otto Lilienthal, the last of a Halberstadt C.L IV, via one of an Me 163, the first 'real' rocket plane in the world, rather confusingly in the middle of an article about the end of World War I. My German could not quite cope with the text, but I enjoyed the many excellent illustrations, and a great deal of information is here about 'our' War. Lots of artwork previously unknown to me, maps, plans, and much about the way Germany secretly re-established an aviation presence after the war, starting with gliders. A very interesting archive. |
