German Air Raids on Britain 1914-1918

bulletReviewed by George Miller in Vol 34 No 2, Summer 2003

This is another facsimile, completely as original, of a book first published in 1925, and is very reasonably priced. I enjoyed the rather antiquated English in which this book was written, but disliked the equally antiquated poor quality of the photographs and the bewilderingly complicated maps. What is clear is that in the end, the Zeppelin raids were a disaster, and their fixed wing successors little better. We very quickly dealt with both, and I suppose that the major benefit to the German war effort was the withdrawal of so many first line Allied aircraft from the Western Front for Home Defence. All contemporary sources both British and German were studied carefully by the Author, there are good lists and indices at the end, and, although Rosher does not appear, this must be as definitive account of the subject as is available.
