This book is interesting to us for three reasons. The first is that Ulster was the destination of the first ever overseas deployment of the RFC, when Capt G.W.P. Dawes landed on the beach at Newcastle, Co Down in a BE2a on 1 September 1913.
The second reason is that it contains some really excellent photographs from our period, many from the archives of the Museum of Army Flying which are new to me, and which are very adequately reproduced. The third reason is that the book is exhaustively researched, well told, and a valuable piece of local history. What a beautiful and tragic place Ulster has been.
