The author has collected photographs of aircraft for 30 years, and this book is full of them, many unfamiliar to me. Although the captions are not always with the pictures, I understand this as a successful attempt to crowd as much information as possible into a limited space. It is claimed that every aircraft type that saw action in World War I is featured, together with pilots and designers ranging from the famous like Albert Ball, to the lesser known but equally fascinating Alexander de Seversky. There are even some airships as well, which delighted me. There are indices to both aircraft and personalities, including Sous Lt
René Dorme, a book about whom will be reviewed shortly.
A valuable and compact reference work. |
