bulletThis section is to encourage researchers to share their research tools. We all have our own indices and lists that we use in our hobby day in day out. If it's useful to you, maybe others would find it useful too?

bulletBob Pearson

Bob has two files he's been working with and updating for years - and here they are. Why not download them and see if they're useful to you?

bulletGraham Nash

Graham has indexed aircraft type appearances across a broad range of books, magazines and journals. The Source List presents 72 pages of reference material  included in the index, and the second is the Aircraft Type Index itself. Both are in rtf format - readable by virtually all word processors. To save you download time, both files are compressed into one self-extracting zip file - just "run" it and the data files will appear!

Anyone who has the Hikoki book "Military Aeroplanes 1914 - 1918" will recognise the format, and Graham pays due homage to Barry Ketley's earlier work.

bulletJohn Grech & John Flannigan

AIR 76
is a class of documents available at the Public Records Office (PRO) in Kew, London. It contains the available personnel records for WW1 officer aviators, on microfilm. The Johns have prepared this  index for researchers, to speed the process of  working out which reel of film holds the record you seek.

bulletDavid Barnes' DSC & DFM Listing

DSC and DSM Awards to RNAS
(220Kb)

Lists all recipients of the DSC and DSM, together with citations and a wealth of other career details.

bulletBAPC Engines Listing

BAPC WW1 Engines
313Kb)

Many thanks to Nick Forder for passing on this really useful piece of research. It lists all known WW1 engines still extant in the UK - together with their location, who's responsible for them - and much more.

bulletBritish Propeller Codes

Prop Codes
(49Kb)

Another great resource from Nick Forder, here we have listed over 300 prop codes, as used on British-manufactured props in WW1. Ordered by drawing number, it shows the aircraft and engine combinations that used the design.

Have you got one of these hanging over the fireplace?

bulletHave you a useful research tool you'd like to share with us all?

Let's be hearing from you!
