Guys

Strange that no one so far has referred to Air Britains's Royal Navy Aircraft Serials and Units 1911-1919

There it clearly is listed that this serial number was used by both types and it also gives their history

Grahame-White XV, 3162: Deld Chingford 28.9.15; damaged 17.5.16; deleted 24.10.16

Nieuport 12, 3162: 1 Wing by 3.2.16 - @29.2.16; Flt A Sqn 1 Wing St Pol by 4.16. Serial outside batch, but several reports that actually used.

Note that Sturtivant claims this was actually a Nieuport 12!

All we need now are two clear photos of both of them....

Mark, There will be in the next issue of Air-Britain Militaria journal, a fairly detailed article by me, on the history of Castle Bromwich aerodrome.

Can anyone help me locate photographs relevant to Castle Bromwich, Lilbourne or Warwickshire in WW1 please? This is to support a temporary exhibition planned for the Castle Vale housing estate, on the site of the former CB airfield. Any photos of aircraft, people, buildings etc would be useful, or advice on any relevant articles. Stow Maries is still on, but sadly the CCI stand won't be there. The weather is so cold, wet and windy, that the older generation, who would have formed a sizable percentage of those manning the stand, have decided that it's all too much. It's a shame, but we have to look after the older members - it's not worth risking their health.

We hope to be there in September, for the next show :-)

I am trying to find out whta his pilot did during the war. He does not have an AIR76 record, or WO339 or 374.

I have a copy of his medal card and his RAeC card.

He did not serve after the war.

Hi All

Has anyone in their own research come across any photos, diagrams or detailed descriptions of the internal layout of an observer's cockpit in a RFC/RAF 'Corps' type aircraft or other air arm equivalents.

The information needed is where and how items such as the message bags, map tubes, streamers, pyrotecnics etc were stowed securely. It may have depended on aircraft type or squadron practice, I suspect the former.

One sees photos of wireless and camera fitments, also German aircraft with pyrotechnics outside the cockpit, however, I have yet to find any illustrations of the above equipment in a cockpit.

Any references are welcome.
