FE2 Unveiling
On: 20/10/2009 In: Uncategorised
On 1st July 2009 the Royal Air Force Museum's FE2b was unveiled in a ceremony at Hendon, London.

RAFM FE2bIn a ceremony in the Bomber Hall of the RAFM, our President (and Head of Collections of the RAFM) AVM Peter Dye (ret'd) hosted the unveiling ceremony for the FE2b. This aircraft has been rebuilt over some 22 years, mostly by John McKenzie with the finishing work ably carried out by Guy Black's Retrotec.

As well as everyone connected with the restoration, the unveiling was attended by a number of WW2 veterans from 102 Sqn, the unit markings in which the FE2 has been finished. In a nice touch, the RAFM supplied a number of re-enactors, playing the part of aircrew and groundcrew - and making for a great photo opportunity.

As can be seen from the accompanying photograph, the aircraft looks absolutely fantastic - a sight no WW1 aviation enthusiast should miss!

The unveiling coincided with the launch of the joint CCI/RAFM book on the FE2 in WW1 service. The book is on sale in the RAFM shops at Hendon and Cosford, and is also available on line in this site's shop.
