Rumours have been flying for some weeks, that Essex WW1 home defence airfield Stow Maries is up for sale.
Roger Smith, curator at Stow Maries, has confirmed that this is indeed the case. Co-owner Peter Wilson is emigrating. As part of his plan, he needs to sell off his assets in the UK - including his share of Stow Maries. Co-owner Russell Savory is not in a position to pay the £2,000,000 asking price for Peter's share, so the hunt is on to find a sympathetic buyer.
We all wish the team at Stow Maries the best of luck in their search.
Roger assures us that: "With the listing of the buildings and the use restrictons on the landing field it is business as usual. Whilst nobody can guarantee its future, there is a certain amount of confidence about its future, especially as both the County Council and the local District Council are working hard on behalf of the aerodrome."
